ATLANTA—Spring Hill recording artist Jason Crabb garnered double Dove Awards last night at the 42nd Annual GMA Dove Awards, while his father, acclaimed songwriter Gerald Crabb, was also honored in two top categories. Jason received Dove Awards for Inspirational Recorded Song of the Year, for “Joseph,” written by Don Poythress and Tony Wood; and Traditional Gospel Recorded Song of the Year, for “Go Tell It On The Mountain.” Both recordings were featured on his 2010 holiday collection, Because It’s Christmas.
In addition, “Sometimes I Cry,” the latest southern gospel single from Crabb’s GRAMMY® Award-winning 2009 self-titled debut, was named Song of the Year. The emotional ballad, which Crabb performed during the show, was written by his father, Gerald, who also took home honors for Songwriter of the Year.
“I went into this year’s Dove show just excited about the evening, grateful to be a part, and honored to be performing as a soloist for the first time,” said Jason Crabb. “Now I am speechless, and so grateful. I hope that awards such as these may be a testimony to others that you can’t dream big enough for God. I am just a kid from Beaver Dam, Kentucky, who God has blessed beyond his wildest dreams.”
One of the evening’s leading nominees, Crabb received nods in both the Artist of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year categories, among others. Crabb also co-hosted the invitation-only pre-show ceremonies, along with Nicole C. Mullen.
Jason Crabb has a GRAMMY® Award, 14 Dove Awards (including 10 received during his tenure with The Crabb Family), and numerous southern gospel industry awards to his credit. The highly anticipated follow-up recording to his acclaimed debut is slated to release later this year on the Gaither Music Group label.
The 42nd Annual GMA Dove Awards were held at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre and will be televised nationwide this Sunday, April 24 on gmc.
